The rematch between Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield took place just 7 months after their first fight. The biggest fight with the greatest build up which helped to make this the highest grossing PPV even in the history of boxing (at this point in 1997). Tyson was still considered the slight favourite, even though he was considerably beaten by Holyfield in the first contest. Richie Giachetti was back in Tyson’s corner and he many believed that he could even the score with Evander.
What I want you to pay attention to is the fear in Mike’s eyes during Mills Lane’s pre-fight instructions. He had never looked this way prior to this fight, avoiding eye contact with Holyfield and generally looking terrified. The shear enormity of the task really got to Tyson here. Holyfield had no fear whatsoever and came to the ring singing and smiling. Tyson got a cut over his right eye early on and went on the rampage. An unfogettable night that will be remembered for eternity, even if it is for all the wrong reasons.
